Vineyard: Sourced from three different vineyards near the town of Solicchiata. Two from the Contrada (hamlet) Piano dei Daini and one in the Contrada Pietramarina. All on the north slope of Etna.
Orientation: North-facing.
Soil: The contrada Piano dei Daini has stratified volcanic soil, Pietramarina has clay soil.
Viticulture: Practicing organic. Hand harvested between September 2 and October 3rd. The age of vines in the Contrada PIano dei Daini ranges from 20 to 60. The age of the vines in Pietramarina is 30 years.
VinificationSpontaneous fermentation and maceration on the skins for 15 days in tanks without temperature control.
Aging:Aged for 14 months in used tonneaux and then in five months in concrete.
Production: 6.500 bottles
Tasting Notes: Garnet in colour, with aromas of raspberry, strawberry, campfire, candied rose petal, anise and almond biscotti. Wild berries, rose petal, cherry, black pepper, a vein of tarry earth and fresh acidity glide across silky, firm tannins. Almond biscotti, cherry and peppery spice linger on the plush finish. Well composed and balanced, with a refined character.
